Our first bespoke Low Carbon Website
We were delighted to be chosen by Lamlash Cruises to create a new website for them which was low carbon. Lamlash cruises are actively embracing the shift to a zero carbon economy, and so it made sense for them to extend this to their digital presence too.
The low carbon website build
The Lamlash Cruises website is a small one-page website with just a little information and a contact form. This was a perfect starting site to employ some low carbon web design principles.
The technical stuff
We built the site on WordPress which allows the client to update the content whenever they need to without waiting for our availability. We used a tool called Sage by roots to allow us to build a sleek, clean theme to use for displaying the information.
Did we achieve a low carbon website?
Yes! We managed to get the website down to just 0.43g or carbon per page load. Cleaner than 73% of pages tested using www.websitecarbon.com.
Could this be a carbon positive website?
We plant trees through Trees for Life in the From This Day grove for each completed website development. I’m cautious to use the term carbon positive, but the trees planted on behalf of Lamlash Cruises for choosing From This Day will sequester more carbon than the website creates many times over.

TREES
Trees For Life are a worthy Scottish Charity rewilding the Scottish Highlands and regenerating the great Caledonian Forest.
To celebrate each new completed website, From This Day pledge to plant 25 trees in our very own grove.
